COIMBATORE: A policewoman in Tirupur city helped a woman in labour give birth to her baby in an autorickshaw on Friday night.Cops from the 15 Velampalayam police station in Tirupur were conducting a vehicle check near a private school on the Ring Road in Thirumurugan Poondi when they heard a woman crying in pain in an autorickshaw.R Gokila, a grade two police constable in the Tirupur City Armed Reserve Force, approached the autorickshaw and found a woman in labour. Noticing that the woman had already begun to give birth to her baby, Gokila, who had pursued nursing in college, assisted her in the delivery. The woman and her newborn were then taken in the autorickshaw to the ESI Hospital in Tirupur, where their condition is stable. “As a policewoman, I am very proud that I could help someone," Gokila said.The woman who gave birth in the auto has been identified as Bharathi, a guest worker from Odisha.
