COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city cybercrime police arrested a man on Tuesday for uploading a woman’s obscene photographs on a social media platform.The arrested man has been identified as K Raja, 33, of Veerapuram in Chengalpet district.
He had completed BE and was working as a data entry operator in a private firm in Chennai, police said.Police said Raja had a habit of uploading women’s obscene photographs on his Instagram page. He used to collect the photos by downloading them from various websites.
Police said more than 20,000 people were following his Instagram page. A woman from Coimbatore city approached the city cybercrime police a few days ago and said her obscene photographs had been uploaded on the Instagram page of Raja. The police registered a case against Raja under sections 66 E, and 67 of the IT Act, Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.Preliminary inquiries revealed that he had created fake Instagram IDs for uploading the obscene photos with comments to gain a large number of followers. Some of his followers shared photos with him which he posted on his page. The man claimed that the same thing had happened in the case of the complainant’s photos. But he said he didn’t remember who had the shared photos with him.He was remanded in judicial custody.
