Amorim faces scrutiny after Manchester United's Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town but insists he expects to remain manager despite a poor start and mounting pressure.

Pressure? What pressure?
Well, despite the horror start to the season so far, Ruben Amorim has insisted he expects to remain in charge of Manchester United after the upcoming international break.
The Portuguese manager admitted that his emotions sometimes get the better of him, referencing his controversial comments in the aftermath of Wednesday’s shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town.
“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years," Amorim conceded. “It depends on the moment and the emotions. That’s what happened after the game."
Post-match outburst sparks speculation
Following the 2-1 defeat at Blundell Park, which saw United dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the second round, Amorim was openly critical of his squad.
The Portuguese remarked that his players “spoke really loud" and that “something has to change"—comments which immediately fueled speculation over whether he could survive in the job.
United are winless in their opening two Premier League fixtures, and the setback in Grimsby only intensified the scrutiny on Amorim, who is still trying to win over supporters after a difficult start to life at Old Trafford.
Struggles since arrival
Amorim was appointed in November last year but endured a torrid opening campaign. United slumped to their lowest league finish since the relegation season of 1973–74, leaving the Portuguese coach with significant work to rebuild confidence in both the dressing room and the stands.
His task has been complicated further by United’s inconsistent start to the current season, with defensive lapses and lack of cutting edge up front undermining their progress.
‘I’m the manager of Manchester United’
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley, Amorim attempted to clarify his position. Asked whether he would still be in charge when United face local rivals Manchester City on September 14, the 39-year-old stopped short of making promises but struck a defiant note.
“I don’t know what is going to happen. That is my idea, but I’m not going to promise you nothing, what is going to be in the future," he said. “But I’m the manager of Manchester United, and I think that is not going to change."
