'Game of Thrones' star Sophie Turner has officially been cast as
Lara Croft
in the highly anticipated television adaptation of the iconic
Tomb Raider
video game franchise. The series is being spearheaded by
Phoebe Waller-Bridge
, who serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. Known for her acclaimed work on 'Fleabag' and 'Killing Eve', Waller-Bridge brings her creative vision to the project, which is being touted as one of Prime Video’s most ambitious ventures yet.
Sophie reacts to her casting as Lara Croft
In a statement, Turner expressed both excitement and humility at taking on the part made famous by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s films and later by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. Turner said, “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
