Tommy DeVito is on the move. The New Jersey-born quarterback was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on Wednesday, ending his time with the New York Giants. This marks the close of his storybook run with his hometown team.
DeVito, who became a fan favorite last season, will now compete for a role in Foxborough. His first chance to face his old team will come in Week 13, when the Giants play the Patriots on Monday Night Football in Massachusetts.
Tommy DeVito’s run with New York Giants comes to a close
Tommy DeVito did not make the New York Giants’ 53-man roster when final cuts were announced on Tuesday. The Giants already had Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart set as their main quarterbacks.
That made it very difficult for DeVito to find a place. The team had hoped he could return as a practice squad option, but that chance ended when the Patriots claimed him the next day.
The 27-year-old had one last bright moment with the Giants just days earlier. In the preseason finale on Friday, August 23, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, DeVito went 17-of-20 for three touchdown passes against the Patriots. That strong performance may have helped convince New England to give him a spot.
By claiming him off waivers, the Patriots have ensured DeVito will stay on their roster for at least the first three weeks of the season. Also Read: Taylor Swift vs Cristiano Ronaldo: Whose engagement ring has higher value

He surprised fans by leading the team to three straight wins as a third-string quarterback. His play, along with his Italian-American roots, turned him into a cult hero in New Jersey. Fans began calling him “Tommy Cutlets,” and his agent, Sean Stellato, even became part of the story. During that run, fans paid nearly $200 for DeVito’s autograph, showing how quickly his popularity grew. Now, just one year later, DeVito is starting a new chapter with the Patriots. His story with the Giants has ended, but his NFL journey is far from over.
