Unlike earlier years, the Tour Championship did not employ the starting strokes format. Part of the season-long bonus pool was paid out after the Wyndham Championship and the BMW Championship, leaving East Lake a purse of $40 million. The ten-million-dollar prize awarded to the victor included both the FedEx Cup bonus and the Tour Championship check.
