Tourist guide dies days after assault by hotel staff

A 45-year-old tourist guide died on Monday evening, five days after he was allegedly assaulted by hotel staff during an argument over a payment dispute at a hotel in Karmanghat.

According to the Saroornagar police, the deceased, identified as Vislawath Shankar, booked 22 air-conditioned rooms at N7 Elite Hotel in Karmanghat on October 21, 2025 for a group of tourists from Gujarat. The next morning, while checking out around 6:30 a.m., an argument broke out between Shankar and the hotel staff over a short payment of ₹600.

The altercation reportedly turned violent when four hotel employees, identified as Noor, Kamaluddin, Islam Zahidul, and Rahim, allegedly attacked Shankar. During the scuffle, Noor struck Shankar on the head with a chair, leaving him severely injured.

Shankar was treated at a nearby private hospital before returning home. However, on October 26, he lost consciousness due to the injuries and was rushed to Osmania General Hospital by his family, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day at around 3:40 p.m..

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s son, Vishlawath Vamsikrishna, the Saroornagar police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Further investigation is under way.
