VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada witnessed a dramatic incident in the early hours of Wednesday when a traffic constable and a woman engaged in a heated altercation on a public road in Ajit Singh Nagar.
The situation escalated when another duty constable attempted to intervene, resulting in a confrontation between the two policemen. Following the incident, the Police Commissioner suspended both constables for negligence in duty.According to police sources, Srinivas Naik, a traffic constable attached to the IV Town Traffic Police Station, resides near Dabakottu Centre in Ajit Sing nagar. On Wednesday around 3 am, he was seen quarreling on the street with a woman from Pasuputhota in Madhuranagar.
Duty constable Koteshwara Rao, who was on patrol, approached them and questioned why they were fighting in the middle of the road.Naik reportedly identified himself as a traffic constable and explained that the woman was his relative. Following this clarification, Koteshwara Rao left the spot. However, shortly afterwards, the duo resumed their quarrel near the Rythu Bazaar. On noticing the renewed altercation, Koteshwara Rao again tried to intervene, which led to a heated exchange between him and Naik.
When Koteshwara Rao attempted to take Srinivas Naik to the police station, the woman allegedly grabbed the duty constable’s shirt and physically assaulted him. The scuffle drew public attention, and videos of the incident quickly circulated on social media platforms.The viral footage brought the matter to the attention of police commissioner S V Rajasekhar Babu. Taking serious note of the misconduct and negligence, commissioner suspended both Srinivas Naik and Koteshwara Rao pending further inquiry.Police officials confirmed that an internal investigation is underway to ascertain the complete details of the incident and the roles of those involved.
