Tragedy in Goa: Nightclub fire in Goa claims lives of two youths from Jharkhand's Gobindpur; Migration highlights local job crisis

Ranchi: Two villages, Fatehpur and Gobindpur, nestled amid rivers and forest in Jharkhand’s Ranchi and Khunti districts, witnessed large-scale youth migration over the years as residents were forced to seek employment in other states.With only a few local job opportunities and largely non-productive agricultural land, families were unable to grow enough crops to sustain themselves.Meena Devi, the mukhiya of Gobindpur, said, “There are no industries nearby. The agricultural land is largely non-productive. With the families unable to grow enough crops to make ends, the youths have migrated from here.”Around 50 youths from Gobindpur and its surrounding areas migrated to Goa and other parts of the city for work, she added.Villagers in Fatehpur said around 15 youths migrated to Goa for work from their locality.Nitesh Sahu, a villager, stated, “The two victims of the Goa nightclub fire from our village, Pradeep Mahto and Binod Mahto, migrated there to help their family. They sacrificed their lives at a very young age. The youths generally seek help from their family members and acquaintances working in other states to get jobs.”
