Tragic accident on NH-20 in Keonjhar: Man run over by truck

Keonjhar: A 35-year-old man was run over by a 14-wheel truck on NH-20 near Padmapur in Keonjhar district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Vidyadhar Naik.Vidyadhar’s daughter, Savitri, 14, and his brother-in-law, Debanand Dehuri, 35, who were injured in the accident, were shifted to Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.According to reports, Savitri had gone with her father and uncle to Padmapur for her Aadhaar card correction. While they were crossing the road towards the market on their bike near Padmapur College Chowk, a truck hit the two-wheeler. As a result, the three fell on the road and the truck ran over Vidyadhar.Following the incident, vehicle movement was halted for some time as locals blocked the road.After getting information, police intercepted the truck from Dhanurjaypur village and detained the driver and also seized the bike from the spot. “After autopsy, the body was handed over to his family. The traffic flow was resumed after pacifying the people,” said Amit Kumar Bhuyan, IIC of Sadar police station.Locals are demanding construction of an overbridge at the spot as frequent accidents are taking place in the area.
