KANPUR: Two brothers died from poisonous effects after drinking beverage from a disposable glass used for pesticide on Thursday in Sakri Khurd village under Manimau outpost of Sadar Kotwali area in Kannauj.
One brother died on the spot, while the other died on the way to hospital. The father was devastated seeing the bodies of his two young sons together.Ravish Kumar Srivastava, a resident of Sakri Khurd village, had a potato field about 2 kilometres away near Lilapur village. On Thursday morning around 10 o'clock, he was spraying pesticide with his 21-year-old son Satyam and 19-year-old son Mayank to protect the potato crop from blight disease.
After this, all three also irrigated the field.Around 5 o'clock in the evening, Satyam and Mayank sent their father home and stayed in the field themselves. Both brothers decided to drink alcohol, but Mayank forgot to bring disposable glasses. They picked up an empty disposable glass used for filling pesticide in the spray machine kept nearby and drank beverage from it.Shortly after drinking the beverage, both started feeling unwell.
While walking towards home, after covering about 200 metres, Mayank collapsed unconscious in the field and died on the spot. Satyam called his father to inform about the incident, but Mayank had already died before the father could reach.Family members took Satyam to the district hospital, from where he was referred to Kanpur due to his critical condition. However, Satyam also died on the way to Kanpur.The deceased's elder brother Shivam expressed suspicion that drinking beverages from the pesticide-contaminated glass caused the poisonous effect, which led to both brothers' deaths. Sadar Kotwali in-charge Jitendra Pratap Singh said that both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. In the preliminary investigation, drinking beverages from a glass that came in contact with pesticide is being considered the cause of death.
The matter is being investigated.
