Tragic road accident: Youth dies just before engagement; Community mourns loss with businesses shutting down

Gumla: A young computer operator whose engagement was to be formally engaged on Sunday was killed in a road accident at Toto, a suburb located 9 km from Gumla town, the evening before.The deceased, Vikas Kumar Gupta, 24, a resident of Toto died after his motorcycle was hit by another speeding bike on the main road in Toto. His death, just a day before his engagement ceremony, shocked the entire community, leading shopkeepers to down shutters on Sunday. "We detained two youths on Saturday in this regard, but have not arrested them yet. Action will be taken after we get a statement of the deceased family members," OC of Toto police station, Umdshwar Pal, said."He was returning home after taking medicines from a shop and was on his way home on his motorcycle. Suddenly, a two-wheeler running at a very high speed hit Gupta. He sustained a serious head injury and was first admitted to Sadar Hospital, Gumla, from where he was referred to Rims, Ranchi. However, he collapsed on the way," said witnesses.
