Train attendant stabs jawan after altercation over blanket

JAIPUR: An Army soldier was fatally stabbed by a train attendant on Sabarmati Express following an argument over a blanket request on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The victim, Jigar Kumar, was travelling from Firozpur Cantt in Punjab to his hometown Sabarmati in Gujarat. The altercation took place around 12.30am when Kumar, who was in a sleeper coach, approached an AC coach attendant for a blanket, police said. The attendant, Juber Memon, allegedly refused, saying that the blankets were reserved for AC passengers, leading to a heated exchange. According to Anand, the station house officer of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bikaner, the situation escalated quickly, and Memon allegedly stabbed Kumar.

Passengers were left in shock as the gruesome event unfolded before them. The TTE informed the control room, leading to the GRP's intervention. Juber was arrested on murder charges, Anand said."As the train reached Bikaner around 1 am, we deboarded all the AC coach staff and questioned them, and finally arrested Juber on murder charges. Our police team recovered the blood-stained knife as the train reached Merta Road (in Nagaur district) early Monday morning," Anand added.
