Manchester United have firmed up transfer plans to secure Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo with a bumper deal this summer, according to a report in the Mirror. The Red Devils have moved on from Liam Delap and set their eyes on the Brentford forward with plans to offer the player a £50m deal. United are increasingly confident of bringing Mbeumo to Old Trafford after he indicated he wants to shift clubs.
But the quest to get Mbeumo wouldn’t be as straightforward. United are expected to face a tussle with Newcastle and Arsenal to fetch the Cameroon International in their squad. United manager Ruben Amorim is understood to be keen for Mbeumo to become an integral member of the side after watching him strike 20 goals in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
The Red Devils were initially interested in having Delap on board, but the Ipswich Town Forward’s move to Chelsea has forced the club to shift their attention to Mbeumo. Delap, the 22-year-old former Man City player, is set to be announced as Chelsea’s latest signing after the club agreed to pay his £30m release clause sum to Ipswich.
United’s plans to target Mbeumo are part of the overall strategy to empower Amorim’s hand after announcing their first deal of the summer. The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha after agreeing to a £62.5 million deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. The Brazilian footballer was in Manchester this weekend to confirm his major deal with United before going back for international duties. Cunha’s signing is expected to allow United to bolster their front line after not a single member of their squad reached double figures in the Premier League’s goalscoring charts.
But Mbeumo’s potential arrival to the club also indicates a different approach towards Premier League talent. Last summer, United made heavy spending on securing Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee from abroad with only Mason Mount joining in from England’s top rung. United are surprisingly looking within the English club scene for their next signing after finishing 15th in the 2024/25 Premier League season. The club also made it to the Europa League final but lost to Tottenham.
