Travis Kelce joins massive online battle over Christmas decorations, dropping a timing confession fans didn’t expect (Getty Images)
Travis Kelce does not hesitate when the talk turns to Christmas decorations. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has never been vague about holiday timing, and his latest stance leaves no room for debate.
While fans may argue every year about the right moment to unpack the lights and ornaments, Kelce insists the answer has always been obvious. His comment came as the Chiefs shared a lighthearted Instagram video asking players when it is acceptable to start decorating for Christmas. The choices were simple and direct: “November 1” or “after Thanksgiving.”The clip opened with Rashee Rice repeating the question as he considered his pick.
It then cut to Kelce, who responded without a pause. “After Thanksgiving,” he said. “Come on man, everybody knows that!” His confidence set the tone, but the locker room was far from united. As the cameras followed players through the tunnels of the team training facility, opinions split almost evenly.
Travis Kelce Christmas debate divides the Chiefs roster
Running back Kareem Hunt matched Kelce’s viewpoint. He said he waits until after Thanksgiving, which lands on Nov.
28 this year. Hollywood Brown shared that he gets festive on Nov. 29. Patrick Mahomes also weighed in, saying he starts decorating the “day after Thanksgiving.” Not everyone agreed. Derrick Nnadi pointed out that “people start decorating after Halloween!” while Chris Jones offered one of the strongest takes in the group.
“Well you got to be very transparent with this,” he said. “Some people put their lights up right before Thanksgiving, which I think is crazy. Stop putting the lights up so damn early. I think the appropriate time to put the lights up, I think the first week of December.” He then asked, “That’s fair, right?”The Chiefs will not get much time to decorate on Thanksgiving anyway.
They face the Dallas Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. in Texas, then return home to host the Broncos on Christmas Day. For Kelce, though, the timing conversation is familiar. On a 2024 episode of New Heights, he and his brother Jason gave nearly identical answers when a fan asked about putting up a Christmas tree. “I think Thanksgiving has always been the date,” Jason said.
Travis agreed, adding that “In the Kelce household, Thanksgiving was the day.” Their shared tradition made the rule clear: the holiday season starts once Thanksgiving ends. And as Jason put it, “Thanksgiving is definitely the pinnacle day, that’s the start of Christmas season.”More NFL coverageDrake Maye’s wife steals spotlight with furry TNF look that oddly has ‘nothing to do with Patriots’Aaron Rodgers’ $3.7M Wisconsin mansion hits market, sparking buzz about hidden features and his next big transition
