As the trawling ban kicks in across the State from June 9 midnight, the district administration has sought compliance from all stakeholders. The ban will remain in force until July 31.
At a meeting held on Tuesday (June 3), District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh said that fishing using country boats and inboard boats would be allowed. Inboard boats should use only one carrier boat, and pair trawling using two small boats will be prohibited. Strict action will be taken against such illegal practices. Mechanised boats should not venture into the sea. All the trawling boats must return to the harbour before June 9 midnight. Boats from other States must also leave Kerala’s shores before this date, said a release.
There are 6,233 registered vessels in the district. Of them, 552 are mechanised fishing boats, 173 are boats with inboard engines, 5,098 are boats with outboard engines, and 410 are boats without engines. A total of 119 boats from other districts are operating here.
