India’s women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand began their US Open Super 300 campaign on a winning note, overcoming Spain’s Paula Lopez and Lucia Rodriguez in a hard-fought three-game encounter to progress to the second round in California.
The Indian duo, who are continuing their comeback journey after Treesa’s recent ankle injury layoff, battled for 51 minutes before sealing a 21-12, 14-21, 21-13 victory. The result marked an encouraging start for the pair, who returned to international action earlier this month following a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Treesa and Gayatri looked in complete control during the opening game, surging to an 8-3 lead and dictating the pace of the contest. Although the Spaniards briefly narrowed the deficit with a flurry of points, the Indians quickly regained command and closed out the game comfortably.

The momentum shifted in the second game as Paula and Lucia raised their level. The Spanish pair established an early advantage and maintained their grip despite a late push from the Indians, forcing the match into a deciding game.
In the decider, Treesa and Gayatri once again asserted their authority. They built a healthy lead at the mid-game interval and never allowed their opponents back into the contest, wrapping up the victory with a dominant finish.
The Indian pair will now face Japan’s Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi for a place in the quarter-finals.
Other Results
India also enjoyed success in the men’s singles qualifiers through Rounak Chouhan. The young shuttler secured his spot in the main draw after registering two impressive victories. He first defeated France’s Enogat Roy 21-19, 21-16 before recovering from a game down to beat Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Kuan Lin 13-21, 21-14, 21-10.
Chouhan’s reward is an all-Indian first-round clash against S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian.
The tournament will also feature several Indian contenders in the main draw, including Kidambi Srikanth, who is seeded fifth and will take on compatriot Saneeth Dayanand.
In women’s singles, Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj, Shriyanshi Valishetty, Anmol Kharb, Devika Sihag, Tanya Hemanth, Aakarshi Kashyap and Tanvi Sharma will all be in action as India looks to make a strong impact at the BWF Super 300 event.
