A 21-year-old man was purportedly killed in a blast after he accidentally stepped on an unexploded ordnance in Tamil Nadu's Hanumanthapuram. He was on a trek with five of his friends when the incident took place.

The young man who lost his life has been identified as Yamang Yadhav. His friends also sustained injuries in the incident. The group had climbed a hill that is reportedly used by defence forces for target practice exercises.

As they were walking down the hill, Yamang reportedly stepped on a live munition, causing an explosion that killed him on the spot.

Senior police officials reached the spot after getting information about the fatal incident.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Yamang's friends are undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
