Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to receive a warm welcome from Liverpool manager Arne Slot when he returns to Anfield with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Alexander-Arnold spent ten years with Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League after graduating from the academy. However, after announcing his departure in May, he faced boos from disgruntled fans.

The Champions League draw has facilitated a swift return to Liverpool for Alexander-Arnold, who has expressed lifelong affection for the club and mixed feelings about the upcoming match. He mentioned he is ready for any crowd reaction, but Slot assured on Monday that he would receive nothing but affection from the manager.

“I have great memories of the player and the person," Slot said. “He will get a warm welcome from me."

The jeers directed at Alexander-Arnold last May, when Arsenal visited, led former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to switch off his TV, expressing his disappointment. Following public outcry, Liverpool fans eased their hostility for the remaining home games. Slot remains uncertain about the reception Alexander-Arnold will receive this time.

“Let’s first wait and see if he is on the pitch tomorrow," Slot remarked. “I have no idea how the crowd will react, but he will get a warm welcome from me."

Alexander-Arnold has not played in Madrid’s last two matches due to recovering from a hamstring injury. Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, a 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool, shared that they have discussed returning to former clubs. Alonso’s returns to Liverpool have always been welcoming.

“He has to have his own feelings and enjoy it his own way," Alonso said. “His history is different from mine. He was born and raised in Liverpool. I remember him from his early days in the academy and then joining the first team and winning the Champions League. He should enjoy the moment because it is nice to be back."

Slot confirmed that Alexander Isak would not be available for the game and is doubtful for Sunday’s match against Manchester City due to a groin injury.

“He’s definitely not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be part of the squad," Slot stated. “He’s still not training with the team."
