Tribal farmer killed in lightning strike

A sudden spell of heavy rain lashed parts of Karimnagar district on Saturday evening.

Traffic on the Karimnagar-Hanamkonda highway was disrupted at Shankarapatnam due to heavy downpour, sources said. Heavy rain led to slow movement of traffic at several other stretches on the Karimnagar-Warangal section of NH-563 which is being widened.

Meanwhile, a tribal farmer died in his cotton field after being struck by lightning at Venkataya Thanda village in Chandrugonda mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district late on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as B. Ravi, 35, was caught off guard by the sudden rain accompanied by thunderstorms while working in his cotton field late in the afternoon. He was fatally struck by lightning. He is survived by his wife and two children.
