Tribunal official arrested for demanding Rs 3 lakh bribe in hotel dispute case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two people, including the deputy registrar of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai, for demanding Rs 3 lakh as bribe to settle a case.

The arrests were made on the basis of a complaint made by a person facing a dispute with his brothers over the ownership of a hotel. The arrested deputy registrar of the tribunal allegedly demanded the money to help him get the matter settled in his favour.

A case was registered by the CBI on May 14 in this regard and investigations were started.

The hotel ownership case was filed before the Mumbai bench of the tribunal in November 2020 and has been pending since then.

According to the CBI, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh from the complainant to help him by using his contacts and get the matter settled in his favour. Later, Rs 3 lakh was negotiated as the bribe amount.

Following this, a trap was laid by the investigating agency and a person was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the official. The trap was further laid and the accused deputy registrar was also arrested by the officials.

Further investigations into the case are currently on and raids are being conducted in Mumbai and Lucknow.
