Trichy: City mayor Mu Anbalagan on Thursday reviewed the construction work at the Fort station RoB (Maris RoB) on Salai Road. He said about 70% of civic body’s portion of work has been completed.Trichy corporation's work includes building retaining walls, approach roads, and abutments on the Sastri Road end and the Main guard gate end of the Fort station RoB. “Soon after Southern Railway completes its portion of work, just above the railway tracks, we will expedite the approach road work to link the roads on either end of the new bridge to resume public movement,” the mayor said. Railways have planned to complete its work by Sept. While Trichy corporation spends ₹34.1 crore for the new bridge, railways have sanctioned ₹9.5 crore for a normal girder type RoB. The new bridge will have spacious two-lanes for bidirectional movement of vehicles including heavy vehicles and city buses operated between Chathiram bus terminus and Woraiyur-Thillai Nagar destinations. The lanes will be wider than the old bridge. The new RoB is built as a replacement for more than 150-year-old bridge that was demolished last year due to the age factor.
The bridge area has been closed for traffic since March 2024.
