Trichy Surya, YouTuber Mukthar detained under Goondas Act

Chennai: Political commentator Trichy Surya Siva and YouTuber Mukthar, who were arrested in connection with a derogatory YouTube programme against a woman BJP functionary, have been detained under Goondas Act.The BJP worker had filed a complaint with the Chennai city commissioner of police on June 3, stating that a discussion broadcast on the “My India 24x7” YouTube channel damaged her reputation and caused distress to her family during her postpartum period.Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the content published on the channel. While Trichy Surya, 33, was arrested on June 4, Mukthar was located in Mandya and arrested later. Both have since been remanded in judicial custody.On Tuesday, Chennai city police invoked the Goondas Act against the duo.
