Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Wednesday voiced concern over the low pass percentage in the Teacher Eligibility Tests (TET) conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board but said there were no irregularities in the question papers.
According to the results announced Tuesday, only 458 candidates out of 8,240 (5.56 per cent) cleared TET-I, while 1,589 of 32,286 candidates (4.92 per cent) passed TET-II, raising alarm among job aspirants and education authorities. TET-I qualified candidates are eligible for teaching jobs for classes 1 to 5, while TET-II qualifiers can teach classes 6 to 8.
Speaking to reporters about the issue, CM Saha, who also heads the education department, said, “Perhaps they (TET aspirants) are not satisfied, and they have the right to question. I asked the officials about the matter. Officials told me that they had not seen any kind of irregularity regarding the question paper, and they also told me that the candidates could knock on the door of the court if they wished. You all know that the result of the TET was declared yesterday (Tuesday), and the success rate was low. Many reasons came to my notice. I will see what can be done.”
CM Saha said the government will examine the issue regarding the TET exam to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying issues. He said it is common for doubts to arise during state-level or national-level examinations. In this situation, candidates are encouraged to seek assistance from the appropriate source, he added.
Many TET candidates protested in front of the Tripura TRB office a few days ago over alleged discrepancies in a few answer keys of the examination in the capital city.
Meanwhile, CM Saha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree for Mother) campaign and said trees are the “mothers of nature” for their essential role in sustaining life.
