US President Donald Trump expressed mixed reactions to China’s Victory Day military parade, describing it as a “beautiful ceremony" while also criticising the absence of any mention of the US during the event, Reuters reported. Trump made these comments to reporters on Thursday, just hours after suggesting that Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were conspiring against the US during the Beijing event.

When asked about his opinion on the parade, Trump said, “I thought it was very, very impressive." He acknowledged the display of China’s military strength and stated that he understood why the event was held. “I understood the reason they were doing it. My relationship with all of them is very good. We’re going to find out how good it is over the next week or two," he added.

Despite his appreciation for the ceremony, Trump expressed disappointment that President Xi did not mention or thank US troops during his speech. “I thought that the United States should have been mentioned last night during that speech, because we helped China very, very much," Trump said.

When asked if he felt upset about not being invited to the parade, Trump responded, “It wouldn’t have been my place to be there."

Trump’s stance on the Beijing meetings has been somewhat contradictory over the past few days. In an Oval Office press briefing, he downplayed concerns about talks between Russia and China, suggesting that Beijing needs Washington more than vice versa. He also described Putin as a close friend and mentioned their recent discussions in Alaska. Trump had told reporters that he did not view the parade as a challenge to the US.

However, he later accused the leaders of Russia, China, and North Korea of conspiring against the US. Trump emphasised that China should acknowledge the significant role played by US troops during the military victory parade, highlighting “the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM."
