US President Donald Trump is set to host top American defence contractors at the White House on Friday to discuss speeding up weapons production, as US stockpiles come under strain following strikes on Iran, according to a Reuters report.
Citing five people familiar with the matter, Reuters said the meeting will focus on replenishing munitions after the Pentagon drew heavily on its arsenal during operations in Iran and other military efforts.
Executives from major defence firms, including Lockheed Martin and RTX — the parent company of Raytheon — have been invited, the sources said.
The report said Washington is increasingly concerned about dwindling weapons reserves. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, the US has supplied billions of dollars’ worth of weapons, including artillery systems, ammunition and anti-tank missiles.
The latest conflict involving Iran has further consumed long-range missiles, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, as well as F-35 fighter jets and one-way attack drones.
