Sydney Sweeney, the American actress whose recent advertisement for denims drew a massive backlash, has earned praise from US President Donald Trump who called her ad “fantastic."

According to The Indian Express, Trump said to a reporter, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!"

Trump’s remarks came soon after it was revealed that the Euphoria actor is a registered Republican. Since the revelation, a debate has swirled online over both Sweeney’s political views and the viral campaign. The American Eagle campaign, which leans into a pun on “genes" and “jeans", is currently doing rounds on social media.

Sweeney Registered As Republican In Florida

According to The Guardian, Sweeney registered as a Republican in Florida on June 14, 2024, shortly after purchasing a mansion in the Florida Keys. Her registration came just weeks after Trump’s conviction in New York on charges of falsifying business records and several months before his re-election in November 2024.

So far, Sweeney has not publicly addressed her party affiliation or the growing political attention around her.

Denim Campaign Sparks Mixed Reactions

Sweeney is currently featured in a campaign built around the pun “Sydney Sweeney has great genes"—a play on both heredity and denim.

In one video ad, Sweeney says: “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue."
