At least twenty three arrests were made in Washington DC on the first night of President Trump's crackdown on crime in the US capital. White House press secretary said arrests were made for crimes such as homicide, drug possession, lewd acts among others. Karoline Leavitt said six illegal guns were seized during the operation, adding that “this is only the beginning.”This comes as US president placed Washington, DC’s, police department “under direct federal control” in an ‘unprecedented’ move. "This is Liberation Day in DC, and we're going to take our capital back," the president told reporters at the White House.As part of his move to take control of the US capital’s law enforcement, Trump also deployed the National Guard troops to the city.
