Tsunami preparedness drill carried out along Cuddalore coastline

A drill on Tsunami preparedness was carried out on Thursday along the coastline of Cuddalore under the auspices of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management.

The drive focused on the coastline along Sothikuppam in Cuddalore block and Sinnur in Bhuvanagiri block with the objective of enhancing co-ordination and testing the capabilities of district administration and various other stakeholders in quickly disseminating the warning in the likely-affected areas.

According to an official press release, the drill provided an opportunity for various line departments to test their preparedness and evacuate people during such eventuality. The drill involved simulation of a scenario of tsunami alert.

The administration alerted various stakeholders through wireless and other means of communication. Line departments assisted the administration in the evacuation, search and rescue work in the affected coastal areas and moved residents to relief shelters.

The participating departments, included police, fire and rescue services, health, electricity, animal husbandry, fisheries, National and State Disaster Response Force personnel and first responders.
