In a shocking and grisly discovery that has rattled Karnataka’s Tumkur district, a stray dog was spotted walking out of the bushes with a severed human hand clutched in its jaws on Thursday morning. The macabre scene was first witnessed by a passerby near Chimpaganhalli village, who immediately alerted the police. The village falls under the assembly constituency of Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara.
On receiving the alert, police teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation that quickly uncovered an even more disturbing reality. Over the course of several hours, they found multiple decomposed body parts spread across a 3-kilometre radius. The remains included two hands, two palms, a large chunk of flesh, and sections of intestines. Some parts had already started to rot, raising concerns about the time and method of disposal.
What deepened the mystery further was the complete absence of the head. “The head was not found anywhere in the vicinity," a senior police officer said, adding that the body parts appeared to have been dumped recently but had already begun decaying, suggesting they were a few days old.
While the identity of the victim remains unknown, early indications suggest the body could be that of a woman. However, forensic analysis of bones and tissue samples will be required to confirm this.
Given the gravity of the case, a forensic team and a dog squad were summoned from Bengaluru to assist in the investigation. The teams are combing through the surrounding area for more clues, trying to determine not just the victim’s identity, but also where the murder may have occurred and how the body ended up being scattered over such a wide area.
Police have also issued alerts to control rooms in Bengaluru, Tumkur, Ramanagara, and Chikkaballapur, asking them to cross-check recent missing person reports, particularly those involving women. “We are treating this as a very serious case," a police official said, adding that until the head or any other identifiable feature was found, every missing woman case in these districts was a potential lead.
