Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Friday (July 4, 2025) declared his party will never form an alliance with either the BJP or the DMK. He also accused both the DMK and AIADMK of forming alliances with the BJP for “selfish political gains”.

The party also announced Mr. Vijay as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Assembly elections. He is set to go on a Statewide tour from September, and the party will host its second State-level conference in August.

Speaking at the party’s executive committee meeting at the party headquarters at Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai, Mr. Vijay said: “The TVK will never enter into alliances for selfish political gains. Whether it is the BJP or DMK, our party will not stand with either. If there is any alliance in the future, it will be one led by TVK and opposed to both the DMK and BJP.”

He reiterated that there will be no compromise on this position. “At the national level, the BJP thrives on exploiting religious sentiments of people and attempts to create divisions. While such toxic strategies may work elsewhere, they will never succeed in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Tamil Nadu is deeply rooted in social justice, brotherhood, and equality. “Any party that insults leaders like Thanthai Periyar [E.V. Ramasamy], Arignar Anna [C.N. Annadurai], or other leaders from Tamil Nadu respected by the people cannot win here. The BJP can never succeed if it attempts to do politics by disrespecting such leaders,” the actor-politician said.

He came down heavily on the DMK government over the proposed greenfield airport project at Parandur in Kancheepuram district. The party also passed several resolutions accusing both BJP government at the Centre and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu on several issues.

The party is set to host meetings with booth-level agents throughout July and set an ambitious target of enrolling two crore members to strengthen its grassroots presence across the State. It also plans to host public outreach programmes at the zonal, district, and branch-level units in July and August.
