Twenty seven Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma

As many as 27 active Maoists carrying a total bounty of ₹50 lakh surrendered before the police in Sukma district on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), said the police.

Among those who laid down their arms are 17 men and ten women and two were described as “hardcore” in a statement issued by the police.

On the break up of rewards they were carrying, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said that one of them, 53-year-old Oyam Lakhmu, was carrying a reward of ₹10 lakh. He held the position of a supply team commander of the Head Quarter Platoon No. 2, the officer added.

Among the others, said Mr. Chavan, three carried a reward of ₹8 lakh each, one carried a reward of ₹3 lakh.

“Besides this, ₹2 lakh each was announced for two Maoists and ₹1 lakh each for nine Maoists, totalling ₹50 lakh,” he said.

He said that these outlaws were influenced by the Chhattisgarh Government’s “Chhattisgarh Naxalite Surrender Rehabilitation Policy” and “Niyad Nella Nar” scheme.

“Under the direction of senior officers in Sukma district and the continuous establishment of camps in the most sensitive interior areas, the increasing influence of the police and the inhuman, baseless ideology of the Maoists and their exploitation, atrocities and discrimination by outside Maoists and the atrocities on the local tribals have increased,” he added.

Earlier on October 10, 16 Maoists carrying a total reward of ₹48 lakh had surrendered in Narayanpur.

This year has witnessed several bulk surrenders too such as 103 Maoists laying down arms on October 2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a visit to Chhattisgarh’s Bastar earlier this month has ruled out talks with the Maoists.
