Two arrested for allegedly assaulting and abusing Dalit lawyer

The police arrested two men for allegedly assaulting a Dalit lawyer at Nagaral village in Shorapur taluk of Yadgir district on Saturday.

According to the police, they arrested Mallayya Hulkal and Arjun Divadi after a complaint was registered by Durgappa Hosani, a Dalit lawyer, alleging that the accused assaulted him and insulted him. The complainant further said that they also assaulted another person who tried to protect the lawyer.

A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media, and the public demanded immediate action.

The Shorapur police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
