Two arrested for burglary at farmhouse near Tiruchengode

NAMAKKAL: The Tiruchengode rural police have arrested two men on charges of burglary at the farmhouse of a businessman and recovered two sovereigns of gold coins, Rs 1.38 lakh in cash and a scooter from them.The arrested suspects have been identified as V Matheswaran, 38, of Marappanayakkampatti in Salem district and P Harish, 27, of Akkalampatty in Namakkal district.S Ranganathan, 72, of Delhikarar Thottam in Mottayampalayam owns five acres of land and a farmhouse in Pirithi village. Ranganathan went to Delhi on Aug 7 as he is running a business there.On Aug 10, a neighbour found that the main door of Ranganathan's house was broken open.

He informed Ranganathan's daughter, Jyoti, who lives in Chennimalai near Erode. Jyoti reached the farmhouse and found that two sovereigns of gold coins and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash were missing from an almirah.She lodged a complaint with the Tiruchengode rural police. The police initiated an investigation.On Wednesday evening, while patrolling the Kumaramangalam area, the police stopped two men riding on a scooter and questioned them.

“During the inquiry, it became apparent that they were connected to the burglary at Ranganathan house. Following their confession, we arrested them and recovered the gold coins and cash," said a police officer. The suspects were remanded in judicial custody.
