Two Brothers Drown in a Pond near Dindigul

Dindigul: Two minor brothers were found dead after drowning in a pond near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district on Tuesday.The deceased were identified as Velmurugan, 13, and Logeswaran, 7, sons of Arumugam and Rathinam of Kasi Goundan Pudur near Oddanchatram.

Police said the couple had been living separately due to marital differences.Rathinam had been residing with her two sons at a farm in Alanampatti, where she was working as a daily wage labourer.According to police, Rathinam noticed her sons missing from Monday afternoon and launched a search in nearby areas. On Tuesday afternoon, local residents spotted bodies floating in a pond and alerted the police.Police rushed to the spot and identified the bodies as those of the missing boys.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that the siblings may have drowned while playing near the pond after they tried to catch the ducks in the pond.Fire and rescue services personnel from Oddanchatram were called in. The bodies were retrieved and sent to the Oddanchatram govt hospital for postmortem examination.Ambilikai police have registered a case and are investigating further to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
