A two-day camp focusing on women’s issues conducted by the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sanghatane (AIMSS) commenced in Mysuru on Saturday.
The organisation, which sheds light on issues affecting housewives, working women, girl students, etc., is conducting the camp for its members to sensitise them to the challenges faced by women in our society.
The AIMSS said that women are subject to exploitation and humiliation, and it was imperative to raise voice against it through education and sensitisation camps. One of the objectives of such a camp is to infuse self-confidence in women and make them realize that their empowerment is in their hands, and cannot be a gift from others.
The state-level camp is also an effort to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots. The camp entails discussions on key issues such as evolution of human society, and challenges confronting women in the present times, among others.
The conference is being held at the Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry. Participants assembled in front of the venue carrying placards highlighting serious matters pertaining to women. The AIMSS pointed out that teenage pregnancies, acid attacks on women, molestation cases, etc., were on the increase which highlights the growing vulnerability of women, and the imperatives of stronger protective measures, awareness programs, and gender-sensitive policies.
