Two electrocuted, seven injured in mishap at Ganesh idol-making unit in Korutla

Two persons were electrocuted and seven others injured in an accident at Korutla in Jagtial district, on Sunday. The mishap occurred at Balaji Ganesh idol-making unit on Metpalli road in Korutla.

Vinod, the owner of the small idol-making unit, and Saikumar, a worker, died of electrocution, while seven others sustained serious injuries when they were trying to shift a 13-foot-tall Ganesh idol from the workshop to a nearby shed, sources said. Fire broke out when the idol accidentally touched the overhead power transmission lines, resulting in the tragedy.

The injured persons, all labourers, were rushed to the Government Area Hospital in Korutla and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jagtial for better treatment. Vinod is survived by his wife and two daughters.
