A young man and woman died in a bike-truck accident in Kerala's Alappuzha district, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred close to Thursday midnight when the young man, Akhil Krishna (22), and woman, Achu Das (21), were going from Kayamkulam railway station to Cherthala in a motorbike, police said.
The woman was a nursing student studying in Marthandam in Tamil Nadu and Krishna had picked her up from the railway station to drop her at home in Cherthala, it said.
The two were close friends, it added.
On the way back from the railway station, near a petrol pump at Vandanam, Krishna tried to overtake a truck on the service lane from the left side, leading to the accident, an officer of Punnapra police station said.
"Both of them died on the spot," he added.
The officer said that a case under section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the truck driver and an investigation has been launched.
"No arrests have been made yet," he said.
