Two drug peddlers were arrested by Railway Protection Force at Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet

Two drug peddlers were arrested by Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet on Tuesday for possession of 30 kg of ganja, valued around ₹ 15 lakh.

Police said the arrested persons are identified as G. Akash Paul 27, and Mohammed Ibrahim, 25. Both of belonging to Tripura. Based on orders of Asra Garg, IGP (North Zone), special teams were formed in the district as part of a crackdown on drug trafficking.

Following an alert, RPF police personnel checked trains at the railway station. Police found the duo, who were waiting on platform one, looking suspicious with bags. When enquired, they gave contradictory answers on their purpose of travel. Subsequently, police checked their bags and found ganja.

Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. Police said that strict action would be taken against those smuggling drugs into the State. It was found that the seized ganja was meant to be sold in retail among workers in industrial sites in the region and Puducherry. A probe is underway.
