Two killed in road accident near Thanjavur

Two persons were killed and another was injured in a road accident on the outskirts of Thanjavur on Monday.

According to the police, the accident took place around 4 a.m. near the flyover at the junction of Nagapattinam-Tiruchi Highway and Thanjavur-Pattukottai Road. The accident occurred when the driver of the goods carrier, Sathish Kannan, 40, of Marunkulam lost control of the vehicle and rammed the divider.

In the impact, two persons — Kaliraj, 26, of Budalur and Arunkumar, 22, of Pillaiyarpatti near Thanjavur — died on the spot and the driver suffered grievous injuries. All of them were proceeding towards Thanjavur from Pattukottai after delivering the livestock procured from a poultry farm at Vandhavasi near Tiruvannamalai district at the retail outlets in and around Pattukottai, the police said.

The driver has been admitted at the Thanjavur Medical College hospital by the Thanjavur taluk police.
