Two motorcycle riders were killed and two others were injured in a freak accident on the KR market flyover in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Afzal, 25, a footpath vendor, a native of Mangaluru and residing in Vijaya Nagar, and Akash, 24. The injured, identified as Asim, who was riding pillion with Afzal, and Mani, who was riding pillion with Akash, have been admitted to the hospital.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 1 a.m. when Afzal was heading home with Asim after work. Meanwhile, Akash, a resident of K.P. Agrahara and a mechanic by profession, allegedly rode in a rash and negligent manner and crashed into Afzal’s bike.
The impact of the accident was so high that all four were tossed in the air and fell on the road, sustaining severe head injuries. None of them were wearing helmets, and if they had, there was a chance of them surviving, a police officer said. Passersby shifted the injured to the nearby Victoria Hospital, where Afzal and Akash were declared “brought dead”.
The City Market traffic police have registered a case against the deceased Akash for causing death due to negligence.
