Two men drown in Gundamala beach after Ganesh idol immersion

Two cousin brothers drowned at the Gundamala beach after the immersion of Ganesh idol on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Purini Nagaraju (45) and Purini Palachandra (42) from Motumala village of Kothapatnam mandal in Prakasam district.

According to the police, the two had participated in the Ganesh Nimajjanam at 10 a.m., following which Nagaraju ventured into the sea. At around 2 p.m., Palachandra heard cries of help from Nagaraju and jumped into the sea to save his cousin, which resulted in both of them drowning. The bodies were later fished out, the police added.

Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. “The devotees should take care of themselves during Ganesh immersion,” the Minister cautioned.
