Two nabbed for suspected kidnapping bid in Kozhikode

The police on Thursday nabbed two Mangaluru natives who allegedly attempted to kidnap a seven-year-old boy while he was playing on the beach near Puthiyakadavu in Kozhikode. The two were identified as Sreenivasan, 53 and Lakshmi, 48.

Police sources said the two were caught by local residents when children who reportedly witnessed the incident alerted them. They reportedly told the police that the suspects had tried to stuff the boy into a sack. As the children raised an alarm, the two fled the spot, the police said.

The police later traced the suspects with the help of local residents. “The two were engaged in collecting junk materials,” said a senior officer from the Vellayil station. He added that the children’s statements would be verified.
