Two persons arrested with over 5g of MDMA

Tripunithura: City police arrested two youths with synthetic drugs as part of Operation Toofan on Monday.Augustine K, 36, of Mattancherry and Sreekumar M, 46, of Thathamangalam, Chittur, were arrested during a vehicle check by Panangad police.

Police conducted the search after a vehicle was found near Nettoor International Market under suspicious circumstances.

During the search, police recovered 5.46g of MDMA and Rs 29,500 from the car owned by the first accused, Augustine.According to police, Augustine allegedly came to Nettoor in connection with drug dealing. Sreekumar came to buy drugs from him, police said.Police said Augustine is an accused in a case connected to seizure of one-and-a-half kilogram of ganja at Muttom police station, Idukki.

Inspections have been tightened in Ernakulam district in connection with Operation Toofan.The accused were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.Panangad police arrested four youths from the vicinity of Nettoor railway track in Panangad on Sunday. They were arrested following complaints from locals that they were trespassing into private properties near the track to consume drugs.
