Two policemen suspended for sexual harassment in Bengaluru

City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh suspended D.J. Halli Police Station inspector Sunil H.B. and assistant sub-inspector Prakash on the charges of harassing and blackmailing a woman for sexual favours.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, an FIR has been registered against them at the Peenya Police Station.

In her complaint, the victim said that she visited the D.J. Halli Police Station in December 2024 to file a cheating case against her relative.

The complaint noted that the inspector took her personal number and started chatting with her. He proposed for a relationship and offered to help her set up a beauty parlour and a house. He allegedly forced her into a physical relationship on the pretext of marriage. The victim alleged that the inspector was forcing her to attend his video calls and sought sexual favours.

Meanwhile, assistant sub-inspector Prakash came to know about the issue and allegedly started blackmailing the victim, demanding sexual favours. When the matter was brought to the notice of the inspector, he avoided her and even threatened her with dire consequences.

Unable to bear the harassment, the victim approached Director-General and Inspector-General of Police M.A. Saleem.

Based on the direction of the senior officials, the Peenya Police have registered an FIR charging the duo under Sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means), and 75(1) (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The accused are on the run, and a special team has been formed to track them down, a police officer said.
