Two habitual property offenders were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams at Secunderabad Railway Station on Thursday morning, leading to the recovery of gold ornaments weighing approximately 29.8 grams and valued at ₹2.98 lakh.
The accused, identified as Abhay Raj Singh, 28, and Mithilesh Giri, 20, both residents of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody from the general waiting hall on platform number 1. Officials said the duo were behaving suspiciously, prompting a search and interrogation.
During questioning, the men confessed to their involvement in at least four snatching cases reported this year within the jurisdiction of the Secunderabad Railway Police.
The investigation showed that Abhay Raj and Mithilesh Giri have been close friends since 2024 and have a history of thefts. Both men work as labourers but turned to crime to fund their addiction to alcohol, gambling, and other vices. Abhay Raj has previously been jailed for eight property offences, while Mithilesh has been involved in at least four. The accused were remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
