Two students diagnosed with mild jaundice, one with malaria in Saluru residential schools

The health condition of students in residential educational institutions across Saluru mandal in Parvathipuram Manyam district is stable and continues to be monitored by a paediatrician at the local area hospital, according to a government statement released on Friday.

In view of the prevailing seasonal fevers, about 2,900 students from 13 residential educational institutions — including Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare, and BC Welfare schools — were screened after schools reopened following the Dasara holidays. Of these, 21 students exhibiting fever symptoms were admitted to the Saluru area hospital.

Among the 21 students, two were diagnosed with mild jaundice — one from the Social Welfare hostel at Boddavalasa in Saluru and another from the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Karasavalasa. Another student from the Government Tribal Welfare Ashram High School at Antivalasa village was diagnosed with malaria.

The remaining 18 students tested negative for malaria. Hostels and schools where malaria or jaundice cases were reported are being fully sanitised, and all water sources chlorinated. Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) from local primary health centres have been deployed for daily health monitoring. Toilets are being cleaned frequently, and teachers are accompanying students to hospitals. Steps are also being taken on a war footing to install window meshes in all schools.
