Two workers sustain burn injuries at BSL, hospitalised

Steel melting shop at BSL

Bokaro: Two workers were injured in an electrical mishap at the steel melting shop-1 (SMS-1) of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Tuesday. Both were rushed to the Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), where their condition is stated to be stable.

The BSL management has ordered a probe into the incident and reviewed the safety protocols.According to BSL sources, the accident occurred around 3:45 pm at the shop repair area inside SMS-1 while maintenance work was underway. During the operation, an unexpected electrical flash caused burn injuries to Devbrata Yadav (36), an operator-cum-technician, and Shakti Pad Kumar Bauri (37), a contract worker. Both sustained minor burns on their hands and faces.BSL spokesperson Manikant Dhan confirmed the incident and said an internal inquiry has been initiated.

“The management has taken the matter seriously. A detailed investigation is underway and appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible for any negligence,” Dhan said. This is not the first such incident reported from BSL in recent months. The management had earlier suspended a general manager and transferred a chief general manager, following separate accidents at other units. The latest episode has once again raised questions about adherence to safety protocols and preventive measures within the plant.
