A two-year-old child lost her life after falling into an overflowing drain in Bhatkal town in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district.

The toddler, identified as the child of Tauseef and Arju, was reportedly playing near the house at Azad Nagar in Bhatkal Town on Saturday afternoon when the accident occurred.

CCTV footage from the area captured the moment when the child accidentally slipped into the overflowing drain. Family members rushed her to the hospital immediately, but doctors were unable to save her life.

Though the incident occurred on Saturday, it only came to light later. Bhatkal Town Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a similar event, a 12-year-old boy drowned after falling into an open drain while playing near his home in Haveri, Karnataka last year. A two-hour rescue operation by municipal officials and the fire brigade led to his recovery, but despite the efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.

Last month, a Karnataka state bus fell into a drain near Bengaluru after the driver lost control of it at a turn. The bus mowed down a police officer, who died on the spot, and three others were seriously injured. CCTV footage showed the bus dragging several bikes before toppling, prompting bystanders to rush to help the injured.
