The stand-off between the United Democratic Front (UDF) and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State convener P.V. Anvar over the issue of alliance during the Nilambur byelection continued on Thursday as both sections stuck to their guns.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan reiterated on Thursday that Mr. Anvar should make clear whether he supported UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath or not. “The moment he offers his support to the UDF candidate, we will announce our stand towards him,” said Mr. Satheesan.

Indian Union Muslim League national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty hinted that a final decision on cooperating with Mr. Anvar would be taken on Friday.

Mr. Anvar, however, refused to commit his support to Mr. Shoukath, and raised a finger of accusation at Mr. Satheesan, saying that it was the Leader of the Opposition who acted vindictively against him.
